Aftercare for your Tattoo
After getting your tattoo at Iron Moon your artist will bandage you one of two ways: “Traditionally” using ointment/bandage/plastic wrap OR will use “Tega-Derm” which is a clear sticky bandage that seals your new tattoo
-
Keep it clean! After you get home after receiving your new tattoo remove your bandage. Wash your hands before washing your tattoo! Use antibacterial soap, and warm water. Wash it at least twice a day. Pat dry with a paper towel. Then apply a thin layer of Aquafore ointment. After 4 days switch to an unscented lotion or coca butter.
-
Dont be concerned about the black liquid that may create an “ink sac” under you bandage.
For smaller tattoos you can leave your bandage on for 4-5 days before removing it slowly under hot water and then washing it with Dial anti-bacterial soap. At this point your tattoo should be mostly healed and you should begin using cocabutter or unscented lotion.
For larger tattoos, you will need to remove the bandage under hot water using Dial antibacterial soap, within 24 hours. At this point you can begin to “traditionally” heal your tattoo. OR you can pat the area dry and then clean it with witch hazel and let that dry before adding a second piece of “Tega-derm”. Leave this piece on for 4 days before removing it and using Cocabutter.
